Teas from the hightest montains, decades old puer and competition grade oolongs

Expect many infusions from these teas - especialy the Puers - revealing complex multiple personalities with each steep.

Raw (sheng) Puer - Yunnan, China

Green tea leaves from compressed and aged to mellow the initially potent taste. Young wild-tree puers can be profoundly stimulating, ageing mellows this effect and transforms the tea bringing elegance and complexity.

2003, Man Zhuan (Yiwu) Wild Tree £7

A vibrant, rituous tea with potent smoky notes, and plenty of plummy sweetness adding luxury to the intensely energizing effect.

2003, Yiwu Wild Tree £10

Higher grade leaves from from with the signature Yiwu mountain sweetness and refined autumnal fruity taste as the tea develops.

1970s 'Mellon'

Compared to the younger puers, decades of ageing produces a dark, complex and smooth infusion which is a wonderful after-dinner treat. Ageing also mellows the energizing effecct - an altogether more sophisticated experience.

EXCEPTIONAL OOLONG

Also know as Blue Teas, Oolongs are partially oxidized - between green and black tea. This combined with highly aromataic cultivars results in complex tastes and long glorious aftertastes.

Shan Lin Shi - (Taiwan, Winter '08) £7

Harvested on the perfect day for High Mountain green oolongs after a long-awaited cold snap. Delicate floral notes and smooth, vanilla, creamy, buttery taste.

Da Yu Ling (Taiwan, Winter '08) £10

From a plantation at 2450m: an epic High Mountain oolong. Rich texture, doublecreamy taste & an elusive Alpine ‘menthol’ character.

Teguanyin (Anxi, China Summer '08) £12
Supreme Grade

From an authentic old cultivar, and grown in the traditional home of this awesome, fragrant green oolong. Perfect combination of intense white flower (orchids) aroma and rich deep silky taste.

ORIENTAL BEAUTY

A dark oolong from Hsin Chu county, Taiwan, with an amazing perfumed aroma, tasting of dried fruit with hints of honey. Also known as champagne oolong for the light infusion colour, luxurious aroma and concentrated sweet taste.

Top Grade £12

Mainly buds from the tips of the plant giving an intensely concentrated taste of dried fruits and honey.

Competition Grade £15

Only the buds from high grade plants are submitted for judging. This results in the high cost of this tea: each small batch is processed separately.

JAPANESE GREEN TEA

Gyokuro £10

Extraordinary tea which we prepare as an intense infusion using a large quantity of leaves and a small quantity of water at a very low temperature. The plants are covered for the final few weeks before harvest. This labour intensive process increases the concentration of chlorophyll, hence the deep green colour of the leaves. The complex infusion has a rich texture and an amazing savoury sweet taste.
